Sliced Avocado on Toast

This is not a recipe; this is an idea. It's the idea that the ingredient is the recipe and that some things are perfect in their simplest form. The idea that it is best to take a great ingredient and do as little to it as possible. So, just toast a piece of whole wheat bread. Add perfectly ripe sliced avocado and top with olive oil, sea salt, and cracked pepper. This is a great for a snack or even breakfast.

So, what are some really simple recipes that you love?

It might be an ingredient or two over the line, but I'm thinking Chipotle Tabasco atop olive oil-fried egg atop sliced avocado.

Sounds delicious. I think a slice of juicy beefsteak tomato would go well with this too. ;)

This is one of my favorite things to eat. I first tried it in Chile. They mashed avocado and served it with fresh baked bread at almost every meal. YUM!

A sweet version of this is a lovely sliced banana with a little allspice and brown sugar on toast.

I eat this all the time. It's delicious! If you want to make it sweet, just drizzle some honey. I normally omit the honey and enjoy the buttery texture of a fresh ripe avocado.

We have enjoyed this breakfast for years! My husband likes his with butter, avocado and pepper. I like it just with avocado and salt.

If you like it, Vegemite on toast is a good breakfast. Far better than Marmite, in our opinion.

one of my faves too... I think avocado is even better with black salt. Have you tried it?

...and I totally agree with your idea that the recipe is the ingredient. Simple is so often the best.
My simple recipe is a baked dessert apple, cored, with dates in the centre. Or how about grilled perfectly-ripe pineapple?

I love this same thing, and when blood oranges are in season, they make a great addition.

This is my favourite snack too - simple, easy and healthy. My son and daughter love it to, but hubby hasn't caught on yet!

In response to the comment Liz made: It actually rocks with egg and chipotle. I like to eat it for breakfast when the avocado selection is good at the market.

Chunks of watermelon garnished with cashews, grated coconut (unsweetened, fresh if possible) and lime wedges.

Fresh figs, quartered, drizzled with balsamic reduction and finished with a few shavings of Parmigiano-Reggiano.

And one Mom made when we were kids: Banana, sliced lengthwise and sprinkled with fresh lemon juice and a little sugar. Delicious breakfast.
